Just imagine soaking away the cool days in a natural hot spring.  How much would you have to pay for that? How about absolutely-NOTHING?! If you are road-tripping through Rotorua, then best you read this.  Not accessible by public transport, and not within a stone's throw from the Rotorua hub, many tourists miss out on this one.

TAUPO | Excursion to Aratiatia Dam

The Aratiatia Dam lies quietly on the outskirts of Taupo. Peaceful and still, you could be forgiven to think that this was just another dam.  But controlled remotely in Hamilton, the waters are released through the Control Gates several times a day and the rapids flow, as they did naturally in the early 1960s - said to be the largest rapids in Australasia.
