Kauri forest, falls and fresh air await. Meander along the river flats and through lush bush. The AH Reed Memorial Kauri Park is only a 15 minute drive from Whangarei central.
There's a network of walking tracks in this wonderful scenic reserve. One of the shorter walks is the Canopy Track with a walkway that leads you over the Wai Koromiko Stream for a great bird’s eye view of the kauri forest. The boardwalk is literally amongst the trees!
Take your time, enjoy the bush and soak up the surroundings.
The Elizabeth Track (from the lower carpark) will lead to great 23.8m Whangarei Falls (which hugs the Hatea River along the way). It’s an easy walk, although there is a steep climb near the top. If you want to drive there, head to Ngunguru Rd, Tikipunga.
The Hatea River walk is another easy meander along the river flats, through open pastures and lush bush. Follow the eel signs, which will guide you along the track and over the swing bridge. For more information check out the Whangarei District Council website.
We Reckon | Such a nice surprise in Whangarei. The Canopy Track particularly was beautiful. It was like being in a tree-house!
